Ruth V. HICKMAN

Ruth V. HICKMAN, 92, of Hoopeston, Ill., died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Heritage Health Rehabilitation and Senior Living in Hoopeston.

A funeral was June 6 at First Assembly of God in Danville, Ill. Burial was June 6 in Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville.

Mrs. HICKMAN was born Aug. 5, 1920, in Danville, Ill., the daughter of Charles L. and Judith TORNQUIST LEWIS. She married Donald L. HICKMAN of Hoopeston Aug. 1, 1942 in Hannibal, Mo.

She attended schools in Rileysberg, Ind., and moved with her family to Illinois where she attended Oaklawn, Cannon and Danville High School.

She worked at Sears Paper Box Company in Danville. In 1949,

She and her husband entered Lighthouse of International Foursquare Evangelism Bible College in 1949, and graduated in 1953 as ordained ministers.

Their first church was pioneer work in Salisbury, N.C. for 10 years, taking the small beginning church to a growing congregation.

They were assigned to Fairfield for 18 years, serving Fairfield Four Square Church 1962-1980, and the congregation grew.

Although ready to retire, she and her husband accepted a pastorate in Petersburg, Ill., for five years and then retired to Hoopeston.

While in Los Angeles at the International Church of Foursquare Gospel, she was in charge of the mimeograph and the stockroom. In Salisbury, she was assistant manager of the credit office for Montgomery Ward & Co.

Survivors include one brother, Charles "Red" LEWIS of Tilton, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald; one infant brother Johnny; and two sisters, Mable HOAGLAND and Esther HOWIE.
