BATAVIA - Mrs. Lydia E. CURTIS, former resident of Batavia, died Monday evening at the Iowa Medical Hospital in Des Moines of a heart attack. She had been in failing health the past three months.
Last rites will be Thursday, June 7, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Batavia with burial in the Batavia Cemetery. Services will be in charge of the Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines.
Lydia E. CURTIS, 87, was born April 10, 1886, in Charles City, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. KRUEGER. She was a graduate of Highland Park College in Des Moines.
Following the death of her husband, James H. CURTIS, she was employed by the Army Corps of Engineers as a storm study analyst, retiring in 1958. At the time of her death she was a resident of Morris, Minn., where she was a member of the Federated Church of Morris.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Edward HAYES, Des Moines, and Dr. E. Louie CURTIS, with whom she made her home in Morris; three sons, Dr. James F. CURTIS, Iowa City; Dr. Mark H. CURTIS, Clairmont, Calif.; and Kent K. CURTIS, Alexandria, Va.; also 11 grandchildren.
