George ROWLEY rites Tuesday

Services for George T. ROWLEY Jr., 70, 605 E. Madison, who died at 9:30 p.m. Friday at his home, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Hoyt L. Whitebread officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at their convenience. A memorial has been established to the Jefferson County Conservation Board for wildlife preservation.

ROWLEY was born April 2, 1916 in Fairfield, the son of George T. and Anna BARTZ ROWLEY Sr. He married Ruth A. SWANSON on June 7, 1942 in Kahoka, Mo. A graduate of Parks Air Force College in St. Louis, Ill., ROWLEY served as a flight engineer in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II.

As a carpenter-contractor, he built many new homes and remodeled many others in Fairfield and surrounding areas. He specialized in hand-finished cabinetry and restoration of antiques, and installed ceramic tile. A lifetime resident of the Fairfield community, he attended First Lutheran Church and was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 1192. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard before World War II.

Surviving are his wife; a brother, Robert C. of Burlington; five sisters, Jean WILSON of Bellevue, Wash., Maryetta TeBOCKHORST of Fairfield, Enola GRAUMANN of Sheboygan, Wis., Alice PAVLEY of Canton, Ill., Mildred LYNCHARD of Mount Pleasant, nieces and nephews. His parents and a sister preceded him in death.
