Antoinett 'Toni' Belle KNECHT (sic)

Antoinette "Toni" Belle KNECHT, 88, of Corning, died Friday, April 26, 2013, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.

A celebration of life service, preceded by visitation, was at 11 a.m. today, Monday, at the Roland-Ritchie Funeral Home in Corning. Interment will be held at the Oakland Cemetery in Quincy (note: Oakland Cemetery in Quincy Twp., Adams Co., IA).

Mrs. KNECHT was born Feb. 15, 1925, the daughter of Ivan H. and Anna Belle HOLLANDER CRENSHAW. She married Joseph Franklin KNECHT, March 17, 1945, in Stockton, Calif. He died in 2001.

She was raised on a farm near Douds and graduated from the Douds-Leando Consolidated School with the class of 1942, and later attended Iowa Success Business School in Ottumwa.

She worked in the office of the Douds Stone Quarries as secretary and bookkeeper, and at the Louden Machinery Company in Fairfield.

She worked at Diamond Match Lumber Co., as bookkeeper in Galt, Calif.

The couple moved to Corning when Joe was honorably discharged from the Navy Sept. 23, 1945. She worked one year at Okey Vernon Bank, two years at Beatty and Mickey Motor Co., and 15 years at Adams County Cooperative Electric Co., retiring in December 1974.

Two daughters were born to this union, Gloria Ann, and Mary Louise. Joe and Toni bought their small farm West of Corning in September, 1957, and when Joe's health started to fail, they purchased a home in Corning in 2000.

She enjoyed gardening, canning, chess games, going out to eat, card parties and potlucks with friends and neighbors.

The couple spent more than 20 retirement years traveling, camping and winters in Arizona.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary MILLER and husband Warren of Corning; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Waverly HOSKIN of Keosauqua; one brother, Melvin CRENSHAW of Phoenix.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Gloria; one brother, Vinson; and her parents.
