Aletha Joyce 'Sis' SCHWANTES

Aletha Joyce "Sis" SCHWANTES, 78, of Birmingham, died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceloa (sic - Osceola).

No services are scheduled at this time. A memorial service will be planned for a later date.

Memorials have been established to Southern Hills Specialty Care Center, Birmingham Park Shelter, Birmingham Fire Department or the Alzheimer's Association. Memorials may be sent in care of the Raymond Funeral Home, 112 W. Burlington Ave., Fairfield 52556 or to Don SCHWANTES at PO Box 164, Birmingham 52535.

Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham and Fairfield is handling arrangements.

Mrs. SCHWANTES was born June 8, 1934, in Fairfield, the daughter of Paul L. and Sylvia E. WILLIAMS WILLIAMS. She married Duane "Don" Maynard SCHWANTES in November 1963 in Fairfield.

She grew up in Fairfield and had worked at Universal Producing Company as a sewer.

The couple lived in Birmingham for the past 50 years.

She was a homemaker and a member of the East End Pentecostal Church in Ottumwa.

Survivors include her husband Don; two daughters, Lynn HACKWELL and spouse Kory of Granbury, Texas, and Lisa SCHULZ and spouse Michael of Lindale, Texas; one son, Irvin SCHWANTES of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; five brothers, Keith WILLIAMS of Fairfield, Jack WILLIAMS of Ottumwa, Jim WILLIAMS and Bill WILLIAMS, both of Birmingham and Steve WILLIAMS of Bonaparte; and two sisters, Opal ELAND and Paula COOK, both of New London.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Danny RYAN and Maynard SCHWANTES; her parents; two brothers, Marion "Monk" WILLIAMS and Edwin "Bud" WILLIAMS; and one sister, Mabel.
