Iota F. JENSEN

Iota F. JENSEN, age 92, of Ollie, Iowa, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Washington, Iowa. She passed away peacefully after entering Mercy Hospital in Iowa City on March 4, followed by 13 days at All-American Care Center in Washington.

Services will be Tuesday, April 16, at Ollie Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., a luncheon served at 11:30 a.m. in the church basement and the funeral at 1 p.m. with Pastor Danny Cary and Reverend Carla Nelson officiating. Burial wil follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City, Iowa.

Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements and providing comfort to the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family at 1627 Highway 1, Fairfield, IA 52556 for final care expenses.

Iota Frances BIXBY was born July 7, 1920 near Nichols, Iowa to Francis Aaron and Martha Mae CILWELL BIXBY, the oldest of their seven children. Iota was united in marriage to Leonard Leroy BILLMAN on June 16, 1939, divorcing in 1962. He died in 1976.

Iota then married to Robert Loraine Warren JENSEN on August 17, 1963 and he died on February 3, 2006 at Ollie, IA.

They lived in Iowa City from 1963 until 1979 where she worked as a cook at U. of I Quadrangle and the Oakdale security facility. They lived in North Dakota from 1979 to 2001 where she did house cleaning and home care until retiring, and at Ollie since 2001.

Iota enjoyed playing cards, dancing, listening to polka, big band, gospel and country music - especially that played by Bob on his accordian and organ, solving crossword and word search puzzles, and took pride in visiting, corresponding with and keeping up on her family and friends.

Iota is survived by two children: Charlotte FLEIG of Fairfield and Larry BILLMAN in Florida; six grandchildren: Cheryl (Doug) KURNES of Pulasaki (sic - Pulaski), IA, Marty FLIEG (Marlys RUGGLES) of Packwood, Mike (Carla) FLEIG of Fairfield, Larry BILLMAN of Coralville, IA, LeAnn BENDIFEN of North Liberty, IA and Lynette BILLMAN of Iowa City, IA; 10 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; one brother John Leroy BIXBY of Marshfield, WI, two sisters-in-law Darlene BIXBY of Neillsville, WI and Arlene ( Jerry) (sic) NORBERG of Valley City, ND, special friend Thelma Paulsen of Minot, ND and Ann and Richard Kerkove of Sigourney, IA, as well as many special nieces and nephews and other friends.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law Merrill FLEIG of Fairfield, one great-grandson, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 half-sister: Elsie (Elmer) SAULTZ of Muscatine, James (Sevilla) BIXBY of Washington, Iola (Jack) BLAKELEY of Ainsworth, Virgil (killed in WWII) (Phyllis BIXBY of Iowa City, Irene BIXBY (in infancy), and George BIXBY of Neillsville, WI; brothers-in-law Victor JENSEN of Washington state and Albert FEDORENKO of Butte, ND; sister-in-law Betty (and Bing) FLECK of Washington state; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
