Ray Lucas

Ray E. Lucas, 61, of 502 West Depot St. in Fairfield, died at 4:34 p.m. April 24, 1992, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

He was born Feb. 21, 1931, near Brookville in Jefferson County to Merrill and Zella Miller Lucas. He married Grace E. Martin on April 22, 1950, in Keosauqua; she died March 18, 1986.

He lived most of his life in the Fairfield community. He worked in the pattern shop of Malleable Iron Co. for 19 years and later purchased Fairfield Hotel on March 1, 1971. He attended Free Methodist Church and was a member of Knights of Phythias.

He is survived by two sons, Darrell Ray and Robert Jon of Fairfield; a daughter, Elaine Marie Lucas of Fairfield a foster son, John Hemenway of Fairfield; three grandchildren; and a brother, Howard of Richland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, David Bruce; and a brother, Harold.

The service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, the Rev. George Koch officiating. The body will be cremated and burial will be at a later date.

Family visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established in his name.
