Rita W. BARRETT, 87, of Fairfield and formerly a long-time resident of Athens, Pa., died Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.
A mass of Christian burial is at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Ridgebury Township, Pa. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home in Towanda, Pa., from 2-5 p.m. Sunday. Rosary recitation is at 2 p.m.
Cards and Mass stipends may be sent to Esther B. Urban, 1643 Highway 34 West, Fairfield 52556.

Mrs. BARRETT was born March 12, 1926, in Johnstown, Pa., the daughter of James and Esther BOWSER WAPLES. She married Anthony James "Tony" BARRETT of Asylum Township, Pa., Dec. 27, 1948, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Mildred, Pa. He died Oct. 24, 2002.
She grew up in Mildred, Pa., and was a graduate of St. Basil's High School in Dushore, Pa., class of 1945. Following high school she attended Marywood College studying nursing in Scranton, Pa.
She and her husband purchased a farm in Athens Township in 1955, which they operated until 1995 when they sold the farm to their son, Tom. After selling the farm, the couple traveled the country together and volunteered at Yellowstone National Park.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ridgebury and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.
She was a member of Diahoga Grange for 45 years.
One of the greatest events in her life was meeting and hugging Mother Theresa at a Scranton Deanery meeting.
Survivors include one son, Tim Forrest BARRETT and spouse Annette of Lambertville, Mich.; one daughter, Esther BARRETT URBAN and spouse Tom, with whom she resided, of Fairfield; one daughter-in-law, Kathy SULLIVAN BARRETT of Athens, Pa.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two brothers Robert WAPLES of Suffield, Ohio, and Eugene WAPLES of Uniontown, Ohio.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by parents; three sons, Thomas Anthony BARRETT and infant twin sons, Anthony Mark BARRETT and William Joseph BARRETT; one infant daughter, Patricia Ann BARRETT; and four brothers, James, John, Joe, and Jack WAPLES.
Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting in arrangements locally.
