Dale Virgil Norton
January 23, 2004Dale Virgil Norton, 94, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at Washington County Hospital in Washington.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, with the Rev. Don Hodson officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton, with military rites.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m Sunday at the funeral home, with the family present from 2-4 p.m.
Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church, M.L. McCreedy Home of the American Heart Association.
Mr. Norton was born Dec. 11, 1909, in Lockridge, the son of Sherman Peter and Blanche Pearl Eshelman Norton. He married Viola Genevieve Pohren May 7, 1936, in Fairfield.
Mr. Norton was a resident of Washington since the early 1940s. He was educated in Jefferson County, served in the United States Navy during World War II and farmed in Jefferson County in his early years. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad for 31 years until his retirement in 1974.
He was a member of United Methodist Church of Washington.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Virgil Norton and wife Norma of Colona, Ill; one daughter, Ruth Zeck and husband Gerry of Waterloo; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Pohren of Lockridge and Velma Derby of Brighton; and one brother, Russell Norton of Pella.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Viola Norton; and five brothers, Arthur, Raymond, Floyd, Verle and Harold Norton.
