"Mary Bankhead Allerdice was born near Glasgow, Scotland, May 11, 1830, and died of paralysis at the home of her son Hugh, in Pleasant Plain, June 9, 1906. Came to this country with her parents in 1836 and settled in Boston, Mass. Married William Allerdice in 1851; 7 children, 5 of whom are yet living: Mrs. Jennie Snook of Grand Junction; Mrs. Marion Smith of Lockridge, Iowa; H. M. Allerdice of Pleasant Plain; M. N. Allerdice and Mrs. Grace Kleinhan of Lockridge. James Allerdice died in infancy, and William died Feb 5, 1905. The husband and father died in Oct. 1879 (Sept 1880). Besides caring for her own children, she care for two stepchildren: Mrs. Herrald of Fonda, Iowa, and Alex Allerdice of Glendale. Three sisters, one brother, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment: Lockridge Cem."
