Gerald Norman FANKHAUSER, 86, of Ollie died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the All-American Care Center in Washington, Iowa, following a lingering illness.
No services are planned at this time. A general memorial fund has been established.
Mr. FANKHAUSER was born April 19, 1926, in Tipton, the son of Otis and Nedia ACHEY FANKHAUSER. He married Helen ROBINSON May 29, 1950, in Waterloo.
He served in the United States Army and in the Navy in Germany during World War II.
He worked for the city of Iowa City, the city of What Cheer and at the University of Iowa for 14 years.
He was a member of the Iowa City Moose Lodge and enjoyed training horses, working on tractors and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife Helen of Ollie; seven children, Cindy LINDLEY and spouse Phil of North Liberty, Jerry FANKHAUSER and spouse Judy of Lone Tree, Dixie CHAPMAN and spouse Al of Ollie, Sandy STRAMONDO and spouse Tony of Jupiter, Fla., Janette BLAKELY and spouse Dwayne of Higginsville, Mo., Jeff FANKHAUSER and spouse Danielle of Washington, Iowa, and Wayne FANKHAUSER of Jupiter, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.
