Baja HOGAN

Baja HOGAN, 79, of Shell Rock Health Care Center in Waverly and formerly of Richland, died early Tuesday morning, March 5, 2013, at Waverly Health Center.

A graveside service will be held in May at Friends Cemetery in Richland. The body has been cremated.

No visitation is scheduled.

Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association national office, 919 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1100, Chicago, IL 60611-1676 or the donor's choice.

Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly is assisting the family.

Mrs. HOGAN was born July 16, 1933, in Morning Sun, the daughter of Charles E. and Letha McAFEE CARY. She married Richard HOGAN June 27, 1953, in Fairfield. He died Dec. 22, 2006.

She attended school in Morning Sun and Packwood. She graduated from Packwood High School in 1950. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.

The HOGANs made their home in Fairfield after marriage, then later moved to Packwood. In 1965, they moved to Richland and lived there more than 40 years.

Mrs. HOGAN moved to Waverly in 2006 to be closer to her daughter Connie HOGAN.

She loved sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. She was an avid old-time rock 'n' roll and country music fan.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie HOGAN of Waverly and Deb Dale WALKER of Thornburg; one son, Chris HOGAN and spouse Renee of West Branch; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Marvin CARY of California, James CARY of Walcott and David CARY of Moline, Ill.; and one sister, Marlene SNYDER of Muscatine.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Orville Dean, Charles Jr., Ellis and Floyd in infancy; and five sisters, Jeanne REA, Twyla RUBEY, Zelda MORRIS, Lois USHMAN and Mary COPELAND.
