James Roman GEVOCK

James Roman GEVOCK, 62, of Fairfield, died Sunday Feb. 24, 2013, at Parkview Care Center.

A funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Word of life Lutheran Church with the Rev. Chris Fiske officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Kids Against Hunger or Faith Comes By Hearing, Bible sticks program.

Memorials and cards can be mailed to 2414 Highway 1, Fairfield 52556.

Mr. GEVOCK was born July 30, 1950, the son of Roman Joseph and Evelyn grace MINEART GEVOCK. He married Linda ERICKSON May 15, 1975, in Jewell.

He graduated from Fairfield High School with the class of 1968.

He has lived the last 17 years in the Fairfield area.

He has farmed the family farm since 1992.

He retired as a lieutenant colonel after serving 20 years in the Marine Corps. He served as Region 9 Director for Conservation Districts of Iowa and as a Commissioner for Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation Commission.

He attended Word of Life Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Linda GEVOCK of Fairfield; and siblings, Joe GEVOCK of Swisher, Bill GEVOCK of Brighton, John GEVOCK and Phil GEVOCK both of Fairfield, Theresa KASPER of Westminster, Md., and Dave GEVOCK of Manhattan, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Bob ERICKSON.
