Madeline (sic) E. BAKER, 95, formerly of Douds and Selma, died at 1:50 a.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa, where she had resided since November 2009.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

Madelene E. BAKER

Madelene E. BAKER, 95, formerly of Douds and Selma, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society - Ottumwa, where she had resided since November 2009.

A funeral is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Ann Donat officiating. Burial will be in Iowaville Cemetery west of Selma.

Visitation will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the family present from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 14955 190th St., Douds 52551.

Mrs. BAKER was born Dec. 7, 1917, in rural Selma, the daughter of Frank D. and Jessie V. CUDWORTH SPILMAN. She married George A. BAKER of Selma in 1936. He died in 1982.

Mrs. BAKER lived most of her life in the Selma area, Fairfield and, most recently, Douds. She had worked as a nurse's aide, cook, sewing instructor, quilt shop owner and a housewife.

Survivors include two sons: Otis BAKER and wife Dot of Jefferson City, Mo., and Tom BAKER and wife Linda of Douds; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one foster granddaughter.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Jessie BOWMAN THOMAS; two brothers, Don and Clarence SPILMAN; and one infant great-grandson.
