David L. Griffiths, 81, of Keosauqua died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Keosauqua United Methodist Church, with the Rev. ellis andrews officiating. A Masonic Grand Lodge service will follow at the church. Burial will be in Center Chapel Cemetery, southeast of Keosauqua.

Visitation, with the family present, will be held from 2:30-4 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Memorials to Center Chapel United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor's choice may be left at the Pedrick funeral home or mailed to the family at 1504 Second St., Keosauqua 52565.

Mr. Griffiths was born May 30, 1922, near Keosauqua, the son of L. Fern and Gladys Higdon Griffiths. He married Helen E. Kohrs June 13, 1943, in Burlington.

Mr. Griffiths farmed east of Keosauqua and retired to Keosauqua in 1987.

He was a member of Center Chapel United Methodist Church in Keosauqua and the Center Chapel Cemetery Association. He had served on the Farm Bureau board, as chairman of Van Buren County Compensation Board, on the Van Buren County Condemnation Board, Henry Township Election Board and Van Buren County Jury Selection Board, FHA board, and had been a Henry Township trustee and was currently serving on Country Lanes Apartment Board. He was a 50-year Mason and past master of Keosauqua Lodge No. 10, A.F. and A.M. He served as grand master of Masons in Iowa in 1974-75, and was a member of Twin City Chapter 258 Order of Eastern Star in Douds, Ottumwa York Rite and Des Moines Scottish Rite Masonic Bodies, St. Ignatius Chapter Red Cross of Constantine, the Holy Royal Arch Knights Templar Priests, and Kaaba Shrine of Davenport. He was immediate past president of Ottumwa Consistory Club, recipient of Rainbow Grand Cross of Honor and DeMolay Legion of Honor. He served on numerous boards and committees of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Iowa.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Gary L. Griffiths and wife Betty of Lewisville, Texas; and two granddaughters.

His parents preceded him in death.
