Edna Blanche HOFFMAN

Edna Blanche HOFFMAN, 96, of the Long Term Care Unit of the Jefferson County Hospital, died at 7;40 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the hospital.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Dave Peterson officiating.

Open visitation will begin at noon Thursday and continue until 8 p.m. at Behner Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Evergreen Cemetery or to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Fairfield.

Mrs. (sic - Miss) HOFFMAN was born Feb. 1, 1906, in Libertyville, the daughter of Henry Frank and Dollie Ann SCHWARTZ HOFFMAN.

Blanche graduated from Birmingham High School with the class of 1925, and graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant in 1958. She was an elementary teacher for 38 years, the last 17 years in Perry. She retired from the Perry School System May 28, 1971.

She was a member of the Perry Christian Church in Perry, a life member of the Iowa State Education Association of the National Education Association and Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority R.H.O. Chapter. Her hobbies included arts and crafts, crocheting, quilt making, teddy bears and fishing.

Blanche was the great-great-granddaughter of George of DONNER, captain of the ill-fated Donner Party, which left Springfield, Ill., for California in 1846. Early snow trapped the group in the mountains and many of them perished. Donner Pass and Donner Lake, near Truckee, Calif., are named for the family.

Survivors include two sisters, Nellie MEACHAM of Richland and Wilda DOWNEY of Fairfield; and several nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mildred LEWIS; and two brothers, Van A. HOFFMAN and J. Bruce HOFFMAN.

(Transcribed for genealogical purposes only. I am of no relation.)

Admin. note: Buried in Lot 2nd.102 along with her parents.
