Thora Evangeline JONES, 101, of Brighton, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa.
The funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Brighton United Church, with the Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Brighton.
Visitation opens at 3 p.m. wednesday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, with the family present 5:30-7 p.m.
Memorials to Brighton United Church or to Halcyon House may be left at the funeral home, church or mailed to the family at 7801 Tangier Drive, Springfield, VA 22153.
Mrs. JONES was born June 16, 1911, in Iowa City the daughter of Charles and Nellie Irene GOSS. She married O. Dale JONES July 22, 1931, in Iowa City. He died Jan. 28, 1997.
She attended Iowa City schools.
She and her husband farmed near Wellman until 1945 then moved to Brighton and continued to farm until 1968.
She was a housewife, a long-time member of Brighton United Church and the Coachman Camping Club.
She moved to Halcyon House in 2008.
Survivors include one son Larry JONES and his spouse, Sharen of Springfield, Va.; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mabel LENZ of Washington, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ronald JONES; and one sister, Jeanne BEACHLER.
