Hubert Peck, age 84, of 1052 Jasmine Ave., Richland died at 1:43 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at the Jefferson County Hospital Long-term Care Unit in Fairfield.

Born April 5, 1919, at Pleasant Plain, Iowa, the son of Peter Paul and Sophia Drish Peck. He lived his entire life in the Pleasant Plain and Richland communities and graduated from the Pleasant Plain High School.

A lifetime farmer, until his retirement in 1987; he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Hubert was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield, a former member of the St. Marys Catholic Church parish at Polishville and a member of the American Legion for 52 years.

Hubert was an outstanding baseball player and as a young man was considered by the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and the St. Louis Cardinals as a professional player.

Deceased family members include his parents; his sister Emilia Mosinski; and his brother Lawrence Peck.

Survivors include his nieces and nephews: Leonard Mosinski and wife Coe Ann of Fairfield; Richard Mosinski and wife Shirley of Packwood; Rose Schillerstrom and husband Jerry of Fairfield; Mary Sobaski and husband Larry of Packwood; Harold Mosinski and wife Roberta of Fairfield; 16 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 16 great-great-niece and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield, with Father Stephen C. Page officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, with full military rites accorded by the Richland American Legion Post. A Christian Wake service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, with visitation to follow until 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Polishville Association or to the Long-term Care Unit Activity Fund at the Jefferson County Hospital.

Funeral services are in the care of Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
