William C. Newell, 55, of Eldon, Mo., died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Mo.

A memorial service was held Dec. 3 at Osage Beach Health Care Center in Osage Beach, Mo. A family memorial was held in Oceanside, Calif., Dec. 28. Burial was Friday in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, 500 Morris Ave., Springfield, NJ 07081.

Hedges Funeral Home in Osage Beach was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Newell was born Oct. 24, 1948, in Pasadena, Calif., the son of Robert and Gertrude Brawner Newell. He married Barbara Howell March 6, 1992, in Fairfield.

He was a navigator, with the rank of major, in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Paralyzed Veteran Association.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Anthony C. Newell and William M. Newell, both at home; one brother, Robert M. Newell of California; one sister, Christine Young of California; his father and stepmother Mary.
