Elvena Hunt McIntire, 92, of 3000 W. Madison Ave. died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Free Methodist Church, with the Rev. James McGaffey, the Rev. Norman Channel and the Rev. Don Swanson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, with family visitation form 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Behner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Free Methodist Church.

Mrs. McIntire was born Jan. 21, 1911, at the family home in Jefferson County, the daughter of William Chester and Mary Alice Rodabaugh Hunt. She married John Edward McIntire Nov. 4, 1934, in Fairfield. He died July 3, 1990.

Mrs. McIntire lived most of her life in Jefferson County. She graduated from Batavia High School in Batavia. She attended nursing school for three years at Jefferson County Hospital. She was a registered nurse for more than 30 years working at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Schoitz Hospital in Waterloo, Ottumwa Hospital in Ottumwa and Jefferson County Hospital.

Mrs. McIntire was a member of the Free Methodist Church and taught Sunday school for more than 35 years. She was a member of the Nurses Association, Fairfield Lionels, and a 70-year-member of Women Missionary Fellowship International. During World War II, she taught Red Cross safety courses.

Survivors include two daughters, Martha Cathey and husband Frank of Fairfield and Regina Rasche and husband Charles of Sun City, Ariz.; one son, Fredrick McIntire and wife Larue of Belle Plaine; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Van Hunt of Mason City.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Galen Hunt, Ivo Hunt and an infant; one sister, Helen Hunt Carter; and one grandson.
