David P. TIMMERMAN

David P. TIMMERMAN, 69, of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant.

A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Jim Luder of HCI Care Services officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery (note: in Mount Pleasant) with graveside military honors conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard.

Visitation contunues until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home with the family present from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. TIMMERMAN was born Jan. 4, 1943, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Paul Otto and Alice Ernestine McCABE TIMMERMAN. He married Karen Jean BROWN PROENNEKE May 8, 1986, at Saunders Park in Mount Pleasant.

Mr. TIMMERMAN graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1961 and attended college at Southeastern Community College and Iowa Wesleyan College.

He began his career at JI Case Company in Burlington. He began his own earth-moving business, was a plumber and worked for Bill Sater's Blacksmith Shop in Mount Pleasant.

He joined the Iowa National Guard in 1964, which led to a long career in the guard. He became a mechanic for the Iowa Army National Guard's 224th Engineer Battalion in 1972 in Fairfield. He was honorably discharged from the service as a staff sergeant in 2003.

He served on the board of directors of Midwest Old Threshers from 1978 to 2004. He was an original incorporator and past president of the Midwest Old Threshers Foundation.

He founded the Midwest Old Threshers Drive-A-Tractor Program in 2000. He operated the check wire planting demonstration and the wire tie hay press during the Old Threshers Reunions. He helped found the Big Creek Tractor Club, the Poppin' Johnnys Club and the Wayland Tractor Club.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Pleasant.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jon PROENNEKE and wife Tammy of Ottumwa and Joel PROENNEKE and spouse Jeanette of Mount Pleasant; a daughter, Jina SCHNEIDER of Lewiston, Idaho; one sister, Janet Sue BROOKHART of Muscatine; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
