Donald Audsley BALLEW

Donald Audsley BALLEW, 75, of Burlington, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Thielen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jonathan Snow officiating. Burial will be in Hale Cemetery in Hale, Mo.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m.

Memorials may be sent to Great River Hospice.

Mr. BALLEW was born Sept. 9, 1937, in Hale, Mo., the son of Audsley McDowell and Gladys Rena BARLOW BALLEW. He married Julie Sue HANSON Aug. 10, 1969, in Clarkson Valley, Mo.

Mr. BALLEW graduated from Hale High School in 1955. He earned a degree in biology from Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo., in 1961.

He worked for 53 years in sales and was currently working for Stine Seed in Adel. He also had worked in the Fairfield area.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and storytelling. He was a talented poet and loved music.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jeffrey BALLEW and spouse Kara of Orem, Utah; Christopher BALLEW and spouse Selma of Houston, Texas; and David BALLEW of Burlington; four daughters, Sarah BEHUNIN of Hazelton, Idaho; Emily FERGUSON and spouse Tom of Wayland; Julie SCHISSEL and spouse Michael of Port Washington, N.Y.; and Rebecca McDERMOTT and spouse John of Cascade; two sisters, Marilyn MONSON of Derby, Kan., and Nancy ANDERSON of Chillicothe, Mo.; and 28 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Dale BALLEW.
