Corinne Horras, 86, of Sigourney, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, following a brief illness.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney, with the Rev. Philip Ryan officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Sigourney.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Friday at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney and from 6-8 p.m. today at the church, where there will be a rosary service at 7 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established for the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries.

Mrs. Horras was born Sept. 25, 1917, in Keota, the daughter of Peter and Margaret Allinger Adrian. She married Elmer Whitey Horras May 5, 1948, in Sigourney. He preceded her in death in 1974.

She graduated from Keota High School and the University of Iowa, and received her masters degree in special education from Drake University. Following marriage, the couple lived in Des Moines and Ottumwa before moving to Sigourney in the late 1960s. She taught school for more than 30 years, mostly in the North English School District.

She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney, the Altar and Rosary Society and Bible study groups. She also was a member of the American Education Association and the University of Iowa Alumni Association.

Survivors include two sons, Dan Horras and wife Kim of Miamisburg, Ohio, and Bob Horras and wife Sherry of Sigourney; and five grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Don, Evert, Bud and her twin, Eugene Horras, in infancy; and three sisters: Marcella, Marguerite and Geneva.
