Esther E. Stoops, 92, 500 Highland St., died at 12:25 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mike Metz officiating. Interment will be in the Pittsburg Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Raymond Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Stoops was born July 23, 1911, in Van Buren County, the daughter of Frank and Jesse Chezum Ruby. She married Ralph E. Stoops Nov. 30, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo. He died Aug. 2, 1982.

Mrs. Stoops grew up in Van Buren County and received her normal teacher training at Parsons College. She taught in the East Union rural school in Van Buren County. She and her husband farmed near Stockport before moving to Fairfield in 1962. Together they owned and operated Stoops Realty for 20 years.

Mrs. Stoops was a member of First United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine.

Survivors include two daughters, Geri Coughlin of Fairfield and Nancy Stoops of Springfield, Ill.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters: Myrtle Doyle, Wilda Bradfield, Margaret Johnstone, Paul Ruby, Joe Ruby, John Ruby, Dale Ruby and Harold Ruby.
