Alma Elizabeth Mellott Woolums, 85, of Packwood died at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral is tentatively scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Raymond Funeral Home. Interment will be in Packwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to Packwood Christian Church or the Shriners Childrens Hospitals.

Mrs. Woolums was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Johnstown, Pa., the daughter of Hiram Seth and Estelle C. Mellott Mellott. She married Victor Vincent Woolums July 4, 1935, in Lancaster, Mo. He died Nov. 14, 1973.

Mrs. Woolums grew up in the Batavia and Packwood communities and attended rural Jefferson County schools and high school in Batavia and Packwood. She and her husband lived in Colorado during the 1940s, returning to Iowa in 1950. They moved to Texas in 1972. She returned to Iowa in 1974 following the death of her husband. She moved into Fairfield in 1992.

Mrs. Woolums and her husband owned a restaurant. She worked at the Packwood post office and bank and at the Universal Producing Company in Fairfield. She also operated a motel in Texas for a time.

Mrs. Woolums had been a member of Packwood Christian Church since October 1933. She was a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star in Richland, Fairfield and Ollie. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, knitting, quilting and other crafts.

Survivors include two sons, E.J. Woolums and wife Marsha of Louisville, Ohio, and Louis Jerry Woolums and wife Theresa of Santa Rosa, Calif.; one daughter, Janice C. DuBose of Portland, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bea Wielontek of Cobden, Ill., and Peggy Inbody of Burlington; and one brother, Luther Mellott of Versailles, Ill.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Victor V. Woolums II; one granddaughter; two brothers, Brady and Norman Mellott; and three sisters, Margaret Miller, Carolyn Wilmer and Mary Hymes.
