Charles L. "Skeeter" Haynes

Charles L. "Skeeter" Haynes passed away Sunday Dec. 28, 2003, at the Community Hospital Lakeview in Eufaula, Okla.

Charles was born to Charles E. and Grace E. Lawson Haynes Jan. 9, 1936, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield. Charles was a graduate of Fairfield High School with the class of 1954. On March 10, 1956, the Rev. Sam Williamson married Charles Haynes to Rita Carter.

Charles was a 20 year veteran of the Army National Guard. He and his father Charles E. owned and operated Haynes and Son Plumbing until 1959. On March 30, 1959, Charles took a job at Louden Machinery/ACCO where he worked for 42 years until his retirement March 23, 2001. Charles assisted his wife in the catering business at the McElhinny House for 12 years. Charles was a past director of the Louden Depot Community Credit Union. He was past president of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 1927.

Charles is survived by his wife Rita of 47 years; daughters, Cheryl Crawford and husband Charles of Bentonville, Ark., and Shirley Haynes of Fairfield; one son, Skeeter Leroy Haynes and wife Dianna of Libertyville; one brother-in-law, Rickey Carter of Fairfield; one sister-in-law, Robin Elder and husband Jim; one uncle, Bob Lawson and his wife Betty; and one aunt, Dorothy Moore. Charles also is survived by 11 grandchildren, Danielle Hughell, Rick Haynes, Melissa Coop, Brian Haynes, Ashley Crouse, Charles Bradley Haynes, Cody Lucas, Beau Haynes, Brett Haynes, Tad Haynes and Corey Haynes; and two great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Crouse and Clayton Moore Haynes. Charles also is survived by very special friends, Flint and Ursula Garrison, Dick Thomas, Mary Griffin, Bob and Shirley Nelson and family.

Charles was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Following his wishes, his body was cremated.

Celebration of Life services for Charles L. "Skeeter" Haynes will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Danny Cary officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charles L. "Skeeter" Haynes family.
