Keen W. HOYT, 76, of Ottumwa died at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at his home.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Martin Gauby officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. Military services will be conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where family will be present from 6-7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ottumwa Public Library or Fairfield Public Library.
Mr. HOYT was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Lamont, the son of Harold L. and Hazel WHEELER HOYT. He married Ruth BUCKINGHAM Aug. 17, 1952, in Des Moines.
A graduate of Roosevelt High School in Des Moines in 1943 and Drake Law School in 1950, he served in World War II with the 357th Regiment, 90th Division, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
A resident of Ottumwa since 1992, he was personnel director for Raco Inc. in South Bend, Ind., retiring in 1985.
He collected and read books and was active in Friends of the Library, served as a volunteer at Ottumwa Public Library and made books available to nursing homes.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Matthew B. HOYT of Evansville, Ind., and Timothy W. HOYT of Anchorage, Alaska; one daughter, Michelle HOYT SWANSTROM of Nevada, Iowa; three granddaughters; and one brother, Harold HOYT of Batavia, Ill.
