BATAVIA - Former Batavia resident Gary Allen BOLING, 41, of Des Moines, died Wednesday, April 6, 1994, in West Des Moines from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born Nov. 23, 1952, in Ottumwa, to Glenn (sic - Glen) and Donna CREEK BOLING. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1971, received a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Drake University in 1975, and received a master of arts degree in library science from University of Iowa in 1986.
BOLING was formerly employed at Meredith Corporation in Des Moines, where he was associate editor for Better Homes and Gardens magazine and also former editor of the McCalls magazine. He was a free-lance author and at the time of his death was self-employed as a free-lance designer.
He was a member of Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and of Phi Eta Sigma, Kappa Tau Alpha, Sigma Delta Chi and Omicron Delta Kappa fraternities at Drake University.
Surviving are his parents of Batavia; his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Wilma CREEK of Batavia; one brother, Kerry of Batavia; and one sister, Jamie PARKER of Batavia. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Campbell-Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia, the Rev. David Albert officiating. Cremation will follow the service, with burial of cremains in Batavia Cemetery at a later date.
Open visitation began today. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 tonight. The casket will be closed. A memorial fund has been established.
