BRIGHTON - Winifred "Winnie" KURTZ, 81, died this morning, Friday, March 4, 1994, at the McCreedy Home in Washington, Iowa.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain with Rev. David Brownfield officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Prayers for a Christian wake will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton with family visitation following. A general memorial fund has been established.
Mrs. KURTZ was born Aug. 28, 1912, in Washington, the daughter of Charles and Mary SWIFT RAGAN. She was raised in Washington, attended St. James School in Washington and graduated from Washington High School. She attended Washington Junior College and St. Ambrose College in Davenport. On Sept. 21, 1951, she married Robert KURTZ. A school teacher, she taught at Pleasant Hill and Riverside country schools near Brighton. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society, of which she had been vice president, was a Sunday school teacher, and was active in a number of organizations, including Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of American Colonists.
Surviving are her husband; a son, Michael of Brighton; two sisters, Elizabeth McCUTCHEN of Long Beach, Calif., and Margaret NOLAN. Two sisters preceded her in death.
