Marie E. GORMAN

BATAVIA, IA -- Marie E. GORMAN, age 102 of Fairfield, formerly of Batavia, passed away at 8:00 AM, Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at SunnyBrook Assisted Living Center in Fairfield.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 22 at Grace Funeral Care in Batavia, with Pastor Greg Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 9:30 to 10:30 AM Saturday at Grace Funeral Care in Batavia, immediately prior to the service.

Marie was born on March 25, 1910 in Wapello County, the daughter of Jesse and Nellie ACTON LOY. She was educated in Batavia and graduated from Batavia High School. On March 25, 1929 she married Charley GORMAN in Agency. He preceded her in death in 1996.

Survivors include one son, Loy GORMAN of Montrose, CO; two daughters, Ruth LEAZER of Fairfield, and LuAnn DAVIS of Fairfield; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; infant brother Royal; two sisters, Dorothy BERRIER and Marjorie ORNDUFF; two sons-in-law, Newell LEAZER and Jerry DAVIS; and one daughter-in-law, Helen GORMAN.

Marie was a homemaker and farm wife.

She was a member of the Batavia United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, and word search puzzles.

She spent many long hours working in her garden, and canning the produce.

A memorial fund is being established for the Batavia United Methodist Church.
