Eloise SHUMWAY dies

Services for Eloise B. SHUMWAY, 81, Rockford, Ill., formerly of Fairfield, were held Friday at 10 a.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Rockford.

Mrs. SHUMWAY died Jan. 18 at the Wesley Willows Retirement Home in Rockford following a sudden illness.

The daughter of Edgar and Sue SMITH, she was born June 19, 1900 in Fairfield.

She married Robert Burr SHUMWAY Nov. 24, 1938 in Fairfield. He died May 16, 1965.

She was graduated from the University of Iowa in 1922. In her high school and college years, she spent seven summers as a junior supervisor and entertainer on the Chautauqua Circuit.

She was employed as an English and dramatics teacher at Rockford High School and later at Jefferson High School.

A member of the Court Street United Methodist Church of Rockford, she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a 50-year member of Chapter FV, PEO and a 50-year member of Alpha Delta Pi alumnae.

Mrs. SHUMWAY is survived by a son, Robert B. SHUMWAY, Rockford; a daughter, Sue BRITTON, Poplar Grove, Ill.; four granddaughters; two brothers, Booker SMITH, Fairfield, and Russell SMITH jr., Kimberling City, Mo.; and a sister, Maryal SMITH, also of Kimberling City.
