Obituary of William Allen WORKMAN

William Allen WORKMAN was born in Jefferson county, Iowa, October 26 1841, and died at his home in Tekamah Nebr., Feb., 7th 1918, aged 76 years 3 months and 12 days.

In 1864 he was married to Miss Dora HERRING and moved onto a farm where they resided until 1886 when they came to Tekamah, and he conducted a livery, feed and sale stable for more than 30 years and earned the confidence and esteem of this community. Mr. WORKMAN was courteous and thotful (sic) of the rights of others and was one of Tekamah’s most substantial and respected citizens, He was an enthusiastic Mason, having become a member of the order when he was 21, at Fairfield, Iowa, and transferred his membership to Tekamah Lodge No. 31, when he located here.

He issurvived (sic) by his wife, and six children: Mrs. A. M .ANDERSON, and Mrs. J. A. BATES of Tekamah, Mrs. Scott CHARLTON of Fairfield, Iowa, Mrs. J. A. WHEELER of Kansas City, Will of Tekamah and George of Kansas City; also two sisters and one brother are left to mourn the demise of a loving husband, devoted father and brother. There are also thirteen grandshildren (sic) and two great grand children.

The funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity conducted at the house by the chaplain Benj. A. Fye, and at the grave by past-master W. T. Poucher.

The sincere sympathy of the community is with the relatives in their sorrow.

NOTE: William Allen WORKMAN's parents were John W. WORKMAN and his first wife, Amanda Jane KERR. John W. WORKMAN was born July 30, 1819 in Adair County, Kentucky (Family Bible) and died Oct. 11, 1890 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He married Amanda Jane KERR on Dec. 24, 1840 in Jefferson County, Iowa . Amanda was born in 1821 in Knoxville, White County, Tennessee (Family Bible) and died Sept. 25, 1846, in Buchanan Township. Jefferson County, Iowa. Both are buried in the Upper Richwoods Cemetery in Buchanan township, Jefferson County, Iowa.
