Dora Sophia Herring WORKMAN
Mrs. Dora Sophia (HERRING) WORKMAN died at her home, Tekamah, Nebr. Saturday evening February 3, 1923, at 8 o’clock, age 80 years, one month and 24 days. Death was due to infirmities of old age.
Until about two months ago, Mrs. WORKMAN was apparently in good health and kept house for her son Wm. B. WORKMAN. She took special delight in tending to all household duties. Since Thanksgiving 1922 she had been confined to her bed, but apparently without much suffering.
Her four daughters were constantly at her bedside and ministered to all of her wants, and all that human hands could do was done for her. For the last few weeks of her earthly existence, Mrs. WORKMAN was apparently resting as one with the complete consciousness of having done and fulfilled her duty, and thus the Lord saw fit to call her to a sweeter rest.
Mrs. WORKMAN was born Deember 10, 1842, at Saarbuck, Germany. At the age of 7 years, she together with her parents, emigrated to America and resided at Baltimore, Md. and later, moved to Jefferson County, Iowa.
October 4, 1864, she was married to Wm. A. WORKMAN and became the mother of eight children. Two children, Emma at the age of two years and Mauda (sic-Maude) at the age of two years, preceded their parents to the heavenly realms.
Those remaining to mourn their bereavement are: Mrs. Lucy BATES, Tekamah, Mrs. Lena CHARLTON, Fairfield, Iowa, Mrs. Nellie ANDERSON, Tekamah, Mrs. Catherine WHEELER, Kansas City, Mo., Wm. B. of Tekamah and George of Kansas City, Mo. Also twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In 1886 Mrs. WORKMAN, together with her husband and children, moved to Tekamah where they have resided since and where in the same home Mr. W. A. WORKMAN died 5 years ago February 7, 1918.
Mrs. WORKMAN was very much devoted to the performance of all her home and everyday duties.
Her house was always open and her sympathy and motherly council was ever at the command of her friends and neighbors as well as that of her children and grandchildren.
Her mother heart was rejoiced that her children were so happy and doing well.
The sympathy of a wide circle of friends go out to her children and grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at the late residence on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, in charge of Rev. J. H. Utesch, pastor of the Lutheran church, assisted by the Rev. A. Kearns, pastor of the Presbyterian church.
Interment was made next to that of her husband in the Tekamah Cemetery.
