SCOTT CHARLTON BURIED TODAY

Well Known Resident Passed Away Saturday Afternoon at 4:30 Oclock

Scott CHARLTON a life long resident of the county, passed away Saturday afternoon at 5:30 (sic - 4:30 per Death Certificate) at his home, 1008 South Second street, after being in ill health for the past six months.

The funeral rites held this afternoon at 2 o’clock from the home with Dr. U.S. Smith of the Methodist church officiating. Many friends and relatives paid their last respects to his memory at the services. Miss Cora Ball sang the songs in an impressive manner. The pall bearers were -- Fred Flinspach, Charles Green, Wayne Green, Lindsay Briggs, John Lindauer and Samuel Luckman. Interment took place in the Upper Richwoods cemetery.

Mrs. J.E. WHEELER of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. A.M. ANDERSON of Tecumseh (sic - Tekamah) Neb., sister-in-laws and a niece Mrs. Miles BRADFORD of Ottumwa were here for the funeral.

Mr. CHARLTON was born in Jefferson county near Fairfield Dec. 27, 1856, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John CHARLTON. He was married to Miss Lena WORKMAN at Tecumseh (sic - Tekamah), Neb. Oct. 20, 1887. She passed away at their farm six miles northeast of the city Feb. 11, 1925. To them were born three children who survive -- Mrs. Roy E. WORLEY residing northeast of the city and Mildred and Ralph at home. He also leaves a brother William CHARLTON of this city. A sister, Miss Margaret CHARLTON died August 16, 1927.

Scott CHARLTON

At 4:30 p.m., Saturday April 20, 1929 Scott CHARLTON quietly and peacefully passed away at his home 1008 S. 2nd street, after an illness of several months.

He was the eldest son of the late John and Heziah (sic - Keziah) BELL CHARLTON and was born Dec. 27, 1857 (sic - 1856) being at the time of his death 71 years, 3 months and 13 days old.

On Oct. 20, 1887 Mr. CHARLTON was married to Lena L. WORKMAN, who preceded him in death Feb. 11, 1925. To this union was borne five children - Erma (sic - Irma), who died at the age of four years. Roy who died in infancy. Mrs. Roy WORLEY who lives northeast of this city and Mildred and Ralph at home.

He is also survived by one brother William A., of this city and two grandchildren, Arthur and Katherine (sic - Katheryn) WORLEY. His sister, Margaret passed away August 15 (sic - 16th), 1927.

Mr. CHARLTON was born and spent all his life in Jefferson Co., moving from the Richwoods neighborhood to Fairfield, March 1, 1928. He was a loving husband and a devoted father. As he was well know and well thought of, he made a large circle of friends in whose memory kindly thoughts will long be cherished.

(I assume this next article regarding the double wedding was run in "The Mirror" newspaper in Tekamah. William and Dora Herring WORKMAN moved from Buchanan twp., Jefferson County with their family in 1886 to Tekamah, Nebraska.)

James K. BATES and Miss Lucy M. WORKMAN, and Scott J. CHARLTON, and Lena L. WORKMAN were married in Tekamah on Thursday evening of last week. The gentlemen were residents of Perlee, Jefferson County, Ia., and the ladies resided at Tekamah, Neb. On Friday they all, in company with Miss Jennie Kryger, visited the "Mirror" office.
