Mrs. CHARLTON Taken In Death

Mrs. Myrtha CHARLTON, lifetime resident of Jefferson county, passed away about 8 a.m. today at her home, 411 N. Court street.

Mrs. CHARLTON suffered a broken hip in August, 1953, and has been confined to her bed most of the time since. After leaving the hospital she was a patient at the Curtis Nursing home for some time. She was removed to her own home Feb. 27.

The body was taken to the Omar Hoskins Funeral home at Brighton where last rides are pending.

Mrs. Myrtha CHARLTON was born Sept. 4, 1870, in the Richwoods community northeast of Fairfield. She was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Ruth COLLINS GREEN.

She lived in Jefferson county all of her life and was educated in rural schools and schools in Fairfield. She was united in marriage to W. A. CHARLTON on Aug. 10, 1930, and has lived at 411 N. Court since. Her husband passed away some time ago.

Mrs. CHARLTON, 84, is survived by two step-children; Mrs. Orvis DeLASHMUT (sic - DeLASHMUTT), Lockridge; and Arvid L. CHARLTON, Fairfield. She is also survived by a brother, Harlan GREEN, Mt. Lake, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. John CONNER, Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Ben LEATHERS, Los Angeles; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Mrs. Perditta CHARLTON and Mrs. Iredale HOSKINS; and a brother, Dallas GREEN.

Mrs. CHARLTON was a member of the First Methodist church and the Daughters of Union Veterans.

Myrtha was the second wife of William A. CHARLTON who died in 1945; her sister Perditta was his first wife. All three are buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA, in Lot 2nd.153. Per her funeral card, services were Monday, March 14, 1955. Casket bearers were Randall Green, Arthur Lenhart, Darrell Whitaker, Roy Worley, Edward Fligg, and Marshall Green.
