Arvid CHARLTON Dies In Hospital

Arvid L. CHARLTON, 45, 411 N. Court, died Thursday at 6:10 p.m. at Ottumwa hospital where he had been a patient for two weeks. He had been ill for several years and seriously ill the last two months.

Last rites will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home with the Rev. LeRoy Weis in charge. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery.

CHARLTON was born Jan. 7, 1910, in Hastings, Neb., the son of William A. and Perditta GREEN CHARLTON. In 1920 the family moved to Fairfield. He was a graduate of Fairfield high school and Parsons college. He attended the George Washington university in Washington, D.C., and was a physicist at the Bureau of Standards in Washington until his health failed.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Orvis H. DeLASHMUTT, Lockridge; three aunts, Mrs. Pearl LEATHERS, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Florence CONNER, Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Pearl GREEN, Fairfield. A number of cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother.

The body is at the Omar Hoskins funeral home in Brighton and will be brought to the Behner funeral home Saturday morning.

Arvid is buried in Lot 2nd.203 at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA. The stepmother referred to is also his maternal aunt, Wilmirtha GREEN CHARLTON. Per his funeral card, services were Saturday, June 4th, 1955, and the casket bearers were Delbert Buttery, Albert Buttery, Lawrence Wolfe, Palmer Hawk, Herbert Stouse, and Wallace White.
