Gerald Louis Freeman, 85, of 1400 S. Maple St., died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The body has been cremated. No local services have been planned.

Mr. Freeman was born Jan. 10, 1918, in Sioux City, the son of Jacob and Gertrude Kaifetz Freeman. He married Judith Aline Bosse Nov. 25, 1975, in Charlotte, N.C.

Mr. Freeman and his wife lived in Fairfield since 1983. He formerly was from Evansville, Ind. He received a bachelors degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin. He was a newspaper reporter in Madison, Wis., and became UPI bureau chief at Madison. He wrote the "Geezer's Journal" for The Fairfield Ledger from 1993 to 1996. He did advertising for Bozell and Jacobs Advertising and for Keller-Cresent Company for more than 30 years. He was editor for the South Omaha Sun Paper in Omaha, Neb. He also did advertising and marketing consulting in Fairfield from October 1983 to April 1996. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Europe.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Jerry Hudson Freeman of Orwell, N.Y.; and one brother, Sidney Freeman of Charlotte.

Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Margie Freeman; and one brother, Harry Freeman.
