Glen "Joe" Little, 91, 502 North B Street, died at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stephen Page officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Cemetery in Ottumwa.

Open visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home. The family will not be present for visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Fairfield High School Band, Fairfield Senior Citizen Center or to the donor's choice.

Mr. Little was born April 19, 1912, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Fred and Marie Miller Little. He married Maxine Polson Aug. 26, 1940. She died June 20, 1992. He married Eleaner A. Dwire Schafer Feb. 4, 1993, in Fairfield.

Mr. Little lived his life in the Fairfield community. He graduated from Fairfield High School with the class of 1933. He was working as a molder at The Dexter Company when he entered into service with the United States Army. He spent 4 1/2 years in Africa and Italy during World War II. When he returned home, he worked as a fireman on the Burlington Railroad and as a glove cutter at Fairfield Glove Company. In November 1946, he re-entered the Iowa National Guard, and in April 1947, he was appointed administrative service technician for the 34th Division Band. He retired as AST commanding officer for the 34th Army Band May 1, 1971, with more than 40 years of service.

Mr. Little was affiliated with St. Marys Catholic Church, Fairfield Elks Lodge No. 1192, was a past commander of VFW, Circus Fans of America, National Association of Retired Federal Employees past president, band master of 34th Army Division Band for more than 40 years and Retired Officers Association.

Survivors include his wife; one sister, Virginia Bush of Fairfield; and four stepchildren.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three sister, Ethel Murphy, Mildred McIntire and Ruth Nedderman; and seven brothers, Clyde, Ralph, Harvey, Albert, Horras, Paul and Walter Little.
