Martha Jean WATSON

Martha Jean WATSON, age 82 of Stockport, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Jefferson County Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Stockport Christian Church with Pastor Jason Mott officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Cemetery (note - in Stockport, IA).

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Stockport Library. Cards and memorials can be sent to Melissa Watson Sydness at P.O. Box 40, Stockport, Iowa 52651.

Martha was born on August 24, 1930 in Burlington, to Clair and Gladys BRADFORD LYNN. She married Theodore K. WATSON on June 14, 1952 in Eureka, California. He passed away September 1, 1985.

She was a teacher at Van Buren Community Schools for 23 years and was a substitute/volunteer there for 22 years. She was a member of Eastern Star 1953: Worthy Matron, Grand Chapter Committee Member, Grand Representative and District Instructor; Fairfield PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma, Van Buren Republican Central Commitee member and treasurer for 35 years, Stockport Lions, Stockport Library, Van Buren Education Foundation Board and Van Buren County Board of Health. Martha voluteered at the Fairfield Hospital and at the Stockport Library. She loved to travel and had been to all 50 states and to 50 countries.

Martha is survived by 3 children: Scott WATSON of Ft. Madison, Susan WATSON of Middleton, Wisconsin and Melissa (Scott) SYDNESS of Stockport, 4 grandchildren: Jared WATSON, Elizabeth WATSON, Claire NEVIASER and Nick NEVIASER.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
