Dorsey HANEY, 96, of Batavia, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

Arrangements are pending at Grace Funeral Care in Eldon.

BATAVIA, IA -- Dorsey D. HANEY, age 96 of Batavia, passed away at 7:00 a.m., Monday, November 12, 2012 at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, November 15 at Grace Funeral Care in Batavia, with Pastor John Cooper officiating. Burial will be at Batavia Cemetery. Friends may call after 1:00 on Wednesday at Grace Funeral Care in Batavia, where the family will be present for visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Wednesday evening.

Dorsey was born on July 1, 1916 at home near Libertyville, the son of McKinley and Lorena (sic - Lorenia) UMPHREY HANEY. He was educated in the rural country schools in the area. On March 16, 1940 he married Juanita (sic - Ruah 'Juanita') DeGOOD in Fairfield, and she passed away on April 1, 2010.

Survivors include one son Ronald HANEY and wife Vicki of Batavia; one daughter Rosalita BALL and husband Gene of Batavia; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother Merle HANEY and wife Patti of Fairfield; and his caregiver Gennie Crawford.

He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister Doris HOOTMAN.

Dorsey farmed all of his life. He had also worked for a period of time at the Packwood Elevator and at Pickens Firestone Store. He was a member of the local farm bureau. Dorsey loved to hunt, fish, go treasure hunting, travel, and spend time with his family and his animals.

A memorial fund is being established for The Lord's Cupboard in Fairfield.
