Merle George BEKEL

Merle George BEKEL, 85, 1010 Sunny Lane, died at 4:11 a.m. today, Wednesday, March 2, 1994, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Germanville Cemetery at Germanville. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral home. Memorials have been established to First Lutheran Church Handicap Access Fund and Hope Lutheran Cemetery, or may be made to charity of donor's choice.

BEKEL was born Jan. 1, 1909, in Jefferson County, the son of Charles A. and Elizabeth MILLER BEKEL. He married E. Maxene REEDER on Sept. 23, 1936, at Germanville. She died March 2, 1993. He had lived most of his life in the Brighton/Germanville communities before moving to Fairfield 13 years ago. He was a farmer, electrician and salesman. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

Surviving are two sons, Donald of Fairfield, Roger of Moline, Ill.; two daughters, Marilyn McGUIRE of Brighton, Elaine WATSON of Richland; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Clara DIERS of Fairfield. A great-grandson preceded him in death.
