Mary SHELANGOSKI, 96, of Brighton died Wednesday morning, Oct. 31, 2012, at the McCreedy Home in Washington, Iowa.

Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home of Brighton.

Mary Emma SHELANGOSKI

Mary Emma SHELANGOSKI, 96, formerly of Brighton, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 31, 2012, at McCreedy Home in Washington, Iowa.

A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Open visitation at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton will be from 1-3 p.m. Friday. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m. Friday evening at St. Joseph Church followed by prayers for a Christian Wake beginning at 7 p.m., also at the church.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Cemetery or to St. James Church and may be left at the funeral home, church or mailed to the family at 5050 S. Lafontaine Avenue, Springfield 65810.

Ms. SHELANGOSKI was born April 29, 1916, south of Wayland, the daughter of Isadore and Eugenia WOBIG DEUTSCH, Sr. She married Robert H. SHELANGOSKI Dec. 29, 1936 in East Pleasant Plain. He died Feb. 6, 2001.

Ms. SHELANGOSKI attended Wayland schools.

She was a full time homemaker and also worked at Montgomery Ward in Washington and at the Brighton Creamery for a short time.

She and her husband retired from the farm in 1974 when they moved into Brighton. They moved to Washington in 1995.

She was a member of St. Joseph and Cabrini Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.

She also was a member of the Pleasant Valley Neighborhood Club and the Krony Krew Bridge Club.

Survivors include her children, Don SHELANGOSKI and spouse Donna of Springfield, Mo., Sheila FOREMAN and husband Paul of West Des Moines, Patti DAVIS and spouse Bob of Iowa City; one sister, Esther HORAK of Washington; 13 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Gary, and an infant Stephan; and five brothers, Leo, William, Isadore Jr., Joseph and Victor.
