William C. CARTER

William C. CARTER, 82, of rural Stockport died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Harrisburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Caston officiating. Burial will be in Vale Cemetery near the church.

Visitation is at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with the family present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Harrisburg Baptist Church or Van Buren County Hospital Cardio Pulmonary Rehab Unit and may be left a the funeral home or mailed to the family at 28422 Hwy 16, Stockport 52651.

Mr. CARTER was born May 15, 1930 near Stockport, the son of Allen Bruce and Alice Maree TEETER CARTER. He married Neva Elaine STECKER June 1, 1952 in Harrisburg Baptist Church north of Bonaparte. They celebrated their 60th anniversary at Stockport Legion Hall.

Mr. CARTER graduated from Stockport High School in 1947.

He spent his life farming in the Stockport community. He was a director of State Central Bank and served in the Iowa Army National Guard. He served on the Van Buren Community School board including several years as president, and was active in several agricultural associations.

He was an active member and Deacon of Harrisburg Baptist Church.

He piloted his own airplane, enjoyed boating, water skiing, motorcycling, polka music, and playing cards with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marsha APPLEMAN and spouse Steve of Keosauqua; three sons, Michael CARTER and spouse Trena of Columbus, Ind., Merrill CARTER and spouse Susan of Greer, S.C., and Mark CARTER and spouse Shelley of Stockport; two brothers, Robert CARTER of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Richard CARTER of Indianola; two sisters, Ramona CLARK and spouse Eugene of Stockport and Barbara CARTER of Iowa City; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; and three brothers-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
