Death of Mrs. MANATREY.

Mrs. Julia LAVAL, widow of John Peter MANATREY, sr., died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. McCLAIN, in this city Friday. Death resulted from an affection of the heart and her final illnes was of only a few hours' duration. Mrs. MANATREY was born at Belfort, Haute Saone, France, July 20th, 1828. She came to the United States accompanied by her parents and a sister, Mrs. Mary C. PARSONS, who survives her. She was married in this county in 1849 to Mr. MANATREY, who died June 12th, 1880. Two children survive the parents, John Peter MANATREY and Mrs. Mary Catherine (sic - Mary Catharine 'Kate') McCLAIN of this city. Until after the death of the father the family resided in Cedar township on one of the largest farms of the county. Mrs. MANATREY was one of the pioneers of the French settlement southeast of this city and was one of its best and best known women. She was kindly and sympathetic in her relations with society and a liberal giver to all good purposes. As wife, mother and friend she discharged every trust with the utmost fidelity. The remains were interred in this city Monday morning, Rev. A.M. Nodler conducting the funeral services at St. Mary's church.

This resolution was adopced (sic - adopted) by the Iowa State Board of Agriculture in session at Des Moines, December 14th:

Whereas, We learn with much regret that our esteemed associate, J. P. MANATREY, now mourns the loss of a loving mother, therefore be it

Resolved, by the officers and members of the State Board of Agriculture, in meeting assembled, that we tender to Mr. MANATREY and his bereaved family our sincere sympathy in this, their hour of grief.

Resolved, That the the secretary be instructed to send a copy of these resolutions to Mr. MANATREY and spread a copy on the records.
