NADY was born May 15, 1918, in Fairfield, the son of Xavier Clifford and Jennie WRAY NADY. He grew up in Fairfield, graduating from Fairfield High School in 1935, and from Parsons College in 1940. On Aug. 5, 1942, he married Wanda HENDRICKSON at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield. She died July 6, 1993. The couple embarked on successful coaching careers.
He moved quickly through the coaching ranks and by fall 1943 had become head football, basketball and baseball coach at Dowling High School in Des Moines. After four years at Dowling, he moved to the West Coast to assume athletic director and head coaching duties at St. Martin's College in Olympia, Wash.
Most recently, he assisted Fairfield youth teams in both basketball and baseball. He was known as a fierce competitor, who demanded the most from his players and himself.
A growing family prompted a move from athletics to private industry in 1951. He became a national leader in the communications industry, owning and operating businesses in Washington, Arizona, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado and Californa. In 1961, he served as president of the National Association of Telephone Answering Exchanges, was inducted into the Association's Hall of Fame in 1993, and served on the board of directors of Mobile Communications Corporation of America.
In 1970, NADY purchased the NADY family farm, originally settled by his great-grandfather in 1858. During his ownership, he expanded and modernized the farm operation. He retired from his full-time business schedule in 1990.
He was active in church and civic affairs, was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, BPO Elks No. 1192, Fairfield Golf and Country Club, and Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are two daughters, Jean NADY CAPILLUPO of Brighton, Colo., Jane NADY BURNLEY of Falls Church, Va.; four sons, Xavier of Salinas, Calif., Creighton J. of Las Vegas, D. Gary of Yuma, Ariz., Joseph W. of Carson City, Nev.; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, Gary A. of Las Vegas.
