Louis Augustin White Jr., 82, of Dickens, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at his home.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. today at United Methodist Church in Ruthven, with the Rev. Jim Gochenouer. Masonic rites were given by Highland Lodge No. 487 in Ruthven immediately following the funeral. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Mr. White was born Nov. 11, 1921, in Rolfe, the son of Louis A. Sr. and Ruth Wilson White. He married Betty Jean Cook Feb. 7, 1943 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Mr. White moved to Clay County in 1928 with his family and lived in various parts of the county during his school years. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1939. Following graduation, he stayed on the farm and worked with his father. After his marriage, he and his wife farmed in Everly, Spencer, Ruthven and Dickens areas until their retirement in 1988. They purchased acreage south of Dickens and have lived there since. His pastimes included fishing trips to Canada in his "Flin Flon Fliver," which was a converted school bus camper.

He served on the board of directors of the Farmers Coop Elevator in Spencer, Dickens Coop Elevator, Clay County Extension, Ruthven Coop Oil, Clay County Cattlemen and Pork Producers, Ruthven United Methodist Church and Ruthven Care Center. He was a member of the Royal Bullseye Gun Club and was involved in the Masonic Lodge, the Abu Bekr Shrine and was a past master of Highland Lodge No. 487 in Ruthven.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael White and wife Candace of Dickens and Steven White and wife Donna of Frankfort, Ky.; two daughters, Susan Bendlin and husband Robert of Spencer and Kristine Davis and husband Mark of Libertyville; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Muriel Schoelerman of Spencer, Pat Hossack of Spencer and Martha Lou Hoover of Marion; and one brother, Robert White of Peterson.
