Leonard Heinselman
December 04, 2003Leonard Heinselman, 82, of Grinnell died at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grinnell Christian Church, with the Rev. John Epperson officiating.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the church.
The Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Heinselman was born Feb. 15, 1921, in Mason City, the son of Harry and Kate Forbes Heinselman. He married Velma Manning Nov. 15, 1944, in Austin, Minn.
Mr. Heinselman was reared and educated in Cerro Gordo and Floyd counties. He served in the Philippines and Japan during World War II. In 1965, he and his family moved to Grinnell, where they operated the A&W Drive Inn and the Tasty Freeze. He later restored antique furniture and woodwork.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Curt Heinselman and wife Kay of Grinnell; two daughters, Sue Hahn and husband Bill of Amana, and Dixie Decker and husband Terry of Libertyville; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Leigh and Lynn.
