"James E. Rice, 78, extensive land owner in Jefferson County, died at his home 11 miles northeast of the city Thursday evening. His death followed by less than 48 hours that of his brother Jose Rice who died Wednesday morning. Bur. Evergreen. Hoskins Funeral Home. Born Mar. 5 1863 in Pennsylvania. Surviving are wife, one daughter Ida Rice, two brothers, John Rice of Fairfield and O. D. Rice of Richland, and one sister, Mrs. Ida Isenhower of Los Angeles, Calif. One daughter preceded him in death seven years ago."
