“Mrs. Kate V. Rice, 86, died Sun. at Jefferson County Hospital. Bur. McDowell Cemetery. Kate M. Rice, born Aug 24 1883 in Jefferson County near Richland, daughter of Chester and Mattie Cole Staats; reared and educated in Jefferson County and attended the Pleasant Plain Academy and taught school for a number of years. Married, in Jefferson County, Joseph A. Rice Mar. 18 1903. He died Jan 22 1941. Mrs. Rice lived at 609 S. Fifth. Member Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Chester, Fairfield; three daughters, Mrs. Francis North, Greenville, Ohio; Mrs. Raymond Rumer, Des Moines, and Mrs. Gordon Furst, Sparks, Nev.; four grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Lee, Meadeville, Mo.”
