“Joseph A. Rice, youngest son of William and Sarah Rice, born in Jefferson County, Iowa, Mar. 15 1877, died Jan. 22 1941. Married Katie Staats Mar. 18 1903. Seven children: Blanche, Ila, and an infant son preceding him in death. Four living: Mrs. Francis North of Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Roy Rumer of Des Moines; Mr. Chester Rice and Miss Hazel Rice at home; two grandchildren, two brothers, Ol of Jefferson County, and John of Gibson, and sister Mrs. Ida Isenhower of Buena Park, Calif…..McDowell Cemetery.”
